HUFF- Jay Huff, of Rio Rancho, NM died Friday, April 29, 2011 after a brief illness. Dr. Huff was born January 16, 1926 in Lubbock, TX, and grew up in Clovis NM. After serving in the Army during World War II, he attended the University of Colorado, where he earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in music, and married his first wife, Mary Ellen. He was a talented violinist, and played in the San Antonio Symphony and the Minneapolis Symphony. After teaching in small colleges in South Dakota and Texas, he earned a PhD in music Theory at Northwestern University. While teaching at Milliken College in Illinois. He taught music theory and composition at the Ohio State University from 1965 until his retirement in 1988. During this time, he participated in contemporary music ensembles, as composer and performer. Dr. Huff was always interested in the classic languages, he published translations of Latin treatises on Medieval music; his last compositions were based on ancient Greek poetry. Dr. Huff was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Zelta Huff, and his first wife Mary Ellen. He is survived by his wife, Mollie O'Meara of Rio Rancho, NM; daughter, Cheryl Krause and husband James of Providence, Rhode Island; son, Ronald Huff of Texas. Daniels Family Funeral Services
