Kahler, Jean (MacLane) 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family and those that loved her, which was her dearest wish. She was born in West Newton, MA on February 20, 1920 to William B. and Natalie Fitch (Allen) MacLane. In 1924 her family moved to California, which was home for most of her years. As a young woman, she sang in the San Francisco Opera Chorus as well as the Western Opera. She met and fell in love with the love of her life, George W. Kahler Jr. over a game of cards, they married in 1947 and soon after began their own family. They resided in Marin County for over 60 years. Together they loved to travel, visiting Europe, Hawaii, and many places in the US. Jean became an avid photographer and produced many slide shows for various groups. She loved music and attending Operas and PAS concerts. Jean was a member of the Mayflower Society and she and her brother enjoyed sharing genealogical discoveries. Jean was always an avid reader and her children remember her reading to them. In 2002, Jean moved to Socorro to be closer to her family. She was very proud of her garden and her home, which was filled with many precious memories of her family and travels. Jean loved her family, spending time with them or chatting on the phone. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 50 years. Jean is survived by her daughter, Lois Phillips and husband, Fred of Socorro; her son, Charles Kahler and wife, Laurie of Pine, CO; her grandsons, Andrew and Geoffrey Phillips; and Alex and Joseph Kahler; her brother, Alan Maclane; and many other loving family members and friends. Also the family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Donna Taylor, Sarah Arndt, and Sue Padilla, who provided exceptional care for Jean,Your kindness will always be remembered. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Epiphany Episcopal Church, 908 Leroy, Socorro, with Rev. Woody Peabody.
