Jean Arnot McIntyre passed peacefully from this life on October 11, 2023.
Born Dorothy Jean Arnot on April 1, 1929, Jean was the third of four Arnot children, and a 1947 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. In 1951, she married her first-grade sweetheart, David Earl McIntyre, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2013. Together, they raised eleven children, and while David supported the family as co-owner of Sandia Glass, Jean spent countless hours shuttling their children and children’s teammates between parochial league sports games and practices in the family station wagon. Always grounded in their Catholic faith, David and Jean were founding members of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish; it was this faith that shaped Jean’s life of love and service, caring first and foremost for her family, as well as for women and children in need, as a longtime volunteer for Birthright of Albuquerque.
Jean is survived by two daughters: Kathleen Sedillos and Mary DeRoche; nine sons: Tom (Sandy), Jim (Mary), Bob (Melissa), Dave (Beth), John (Liz), Tim (Laurie), Paul (Erika), Bill, Joe (Carla); 26 grandchildren: Carrie, Jessica, Kevin, Jaime, Jennifer, Sarah, Michael, Eugene, Monica, Lindsay, Sean, Nicholas, Andrew, Heather, Shannon, Derick, Chelsea, Jake, Courtney, Jeremiah, Mikayla, Madeline, Ashley, Amanda, Audrey, and Marissa; 25 great-grandchildren: Marquis, Isaac, Nadia, Katrina, Molly, Maggie, Dakota Faith, Logan, Brynn, Ethan, Spencer, Bailey, Bodhi, Landon, Harper, Charlotte, Trey, Oakley, Abbi, Jeshua, Jacob, Noah, Alijah, Auleo, and Charlotte; sister, Mary Fattor; sister-in-law, Thomasine McIntyre, and many nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10:30am with a mass to follow at Our Lady of the Assumption. An interment will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 10:00am at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
The family is grateful to Bosque Trails Hospice for their gentle care of Jean in her last weeks, and in lieu of flowers, requests donations be made in Jean’s name to this exceptional organization.
