Jean Marie Springer
August 2, 1928 - August 22, 2016
Jean (Matthew) Springer was born August 2, 1928 in Tacoma, Washington and passed away August 22nd after a long illness. She graduated from Stadium High School and Washington State College, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Jean was married to Ed Springer for 63 years, before his death in 2014. She worked 25 years as an administrative assistant at the University of Puget Sound. Jean is survived by sister, Margaret Mitchell, brother Archie Matthew, Jr. and her four children: Charles, Jon (Anne), Jim (Kim) and Lori Powell (Ken), seven grandchildren and four great-granddaughters.
Jean was an active member and one of the earliest members of Harbor Covenant Church and particularly looked forward to the women’s bible study. One of Jean's fondest memories was traveling by rented rowboat with her father and grandfather from Point Defiance to the family summer beach near Green Point. On car trips over the first Narrows Bridge she recalled seeing cars ahead drop out of sight as the wind caused waves in the roadway. She inherited a love of South Sound history from her father and loved to share photos of the sunsets taken from her deck on Raft Island. She also enjoyed gatherings with family and friends. Jean will be remembered for her baking, swimming and floating in the bay, outstanding needlepoint and making rhubarb custard pies for her many offspringers. A special "Thank you" to the staff of North Ridge Alzheimer's and Geneva Hospice for the loving care she received.
A private, family service will be held to celebrate Jean's life. Any others wishing to honor her may make contributions in her name to the Alzheimer Association or to Harbor Covenant Church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Jean's honor to Harbor Covenant Church http://harborcovenant.org/
