Jerome "Jerry" Groebner

July 16, 1941 — January 5, 2025

Albuquerque

Jerome “Jerry” Alfred Groebner peacefully passed away on January 5, 2025, at the age of 83 and he is now whole in Christ with his savior in heaven.

Jerry was born on July 16, 1941, to Alfred Joseph and Audrey Louise Groebner in Albuquerque, NM where he grew up with his younger brother Robert Joseph. He attended high school at St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from UNM with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1964.

After graduation, Jerry enlisted in the US Navy and served overseas in the Philippines during the Vietnam War. As he set out on this adventure, he brought along his new bride, Cheryl Sue Hogg (Groebner). They were married in Albuquerque on November 13, 1965. While overseas, they were blessed with the first of their three little girls.

When he returned from the Philippines he switched from active duty to reserve and began working with his family as a CPA in his dad’s company. He served in the Navy reserves until 2001and retired as a Commander. Eventually he and his brother would take over the business and served hundreds of clients with honesty and integrity. He served as President of the New Mexico Society of Public Accountants and as State Director for the National Society of Public accountants during his career.

Jerry was a wonderful husband, father and friend who loved being active with various sports. He was an avid golfer, skier, and racquetball player. He had a wonderful sense of humor even in the end. He also volunteered with his church and attended a regular Bible Study with his friends Mike Unthank, Steve Byrd and Ralph Bonner.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl and daughters, Lisa Mayhill (Ron); Paige Lewis (Jay); and Carrie Staller (Kurt): Brother, Robert Groebner (Karen); Neice, Jodie Pierucci (Gerald); Grandchildren, Avery Brooks (Tanner), Alivia Lewis, Savanna Lewis, Casey Staller, and Mackenzie Staller.

Jerry is no longer with us, but we know that he is in heaven with our Lord and that we are comforted by knowing we shall see him again. Philippians 3:20-21 “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”
