Jerry Ferdinand Cuderman, passed away on February 17, 2025 at the age of 89.
Born on August 1, 1935 in the iron mining and farming community of Crosby, Minnesota. Jerry’s life traversed a path from a farm kid with no indoor plumbing to contributor in space age technology research. But no matter where he was along that path, he was always committed to family.
He dedicated his life to scientific discovery, making significant contributions to high-energy physics, advanced materials research, gravitational forces, and applied engineering. His esteemed career spanned Oregon State University and Sandia National Laboratories, where his expertise shaped advancements in the field.
Dr. Cuderman was instrumental in pioneering High Energy Gas Fracturing , a breakthrough method for enhancing the permeability of geological formations. His work at the Nevada Test Site further solidified his reputation as a leading expert in high-energy applications, influencing generations of researchers and engineers. His contributions extended beyond the laboratory, with numerous published works that continue to inform and inspire.
Beyond his scientific accomplishments, he was always thinking and working on home and personal projects. Through these, he taught and inspired his children in the joy of creating things of value.
Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; daughter Kathy and son-in-law Stephen; son Jerry and daughter-in-law Laura; and his cherished grandsons, Jernej and Christian. He found great joy in his family, sharing his love of discovery and curiosity with those closest to him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to a charity of choice. His legacy of devotion, innovation and knowledge will continue to live on in the lives he touched.
Jerry will be dearly missed but forever remembered in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
