Joan M. Ashcraft

Ashcraft, Joan M. Joan (Jo) Marie Ashcraft passed away Jan. 9, 2012 at the age of 82. She was born Sept. 16, 1929, to Fred Heinrich Gustav Schlieper and Ella Marie (Moe) Schlieper, in St. Paul, Minn. She is survived by son, Evan Ashcraft (wife Ellen) of Tijeras; daughter Rachel Hall (husband Russell) and granddaughter Kristina Marie Hall, of Placitas; and sister, Carol Bushinski, Woodbury, Minn. Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Joseph R. Ashcraft, her parents, and two brothers, Jim and Roger Schlieper. Jo earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business from the University of Minnesota. She enjoyed family activities, such as traveling, skiing, camping, and sailing, and was an accomplished hobby painter in several mediums. She made a career at Prudential Insurance in Albuquerque. Jo was a kind, graceful soul who spread joy in her wake. Although an incurable neurological disorder crippled her body in late adulthood, she was always giving and considerate. She delighted in her many friendships. Her unbelievable optimism, cheerfulness and independence were an inspiring example to us all. Jo will be deeply missed, but just imagine her smile-now free of her uncooperative body and soaring with angel wings! Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, at 9:30 a.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel.
