With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Joanne Salerno, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Joanne's life was tragically cut short in a car accident on October 13, 2024, while she and her devoted husband, Pat Salerno, were returning from church services.
Born on February 1, 1946, in Poughkeepsie, NY, Joanne was the daughter of Robert and Dianne Hayes (predeceased). She lived a life dedicated to others, particularly through her role as a schoolteacher, where she not only imparted knowledge but nurtured her students with care and compassion. Joanne’s kindness knew no bounds, and her love for her students and community left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In New York, Joanne was a valued member of the East Fishkill Rescue Squad and the Wiccopee Fire House, where she tirelessly volunteered and exemplified the spirit of service. Her heart was truly full of love, and she extended it to all who crossed her path, touching lives in ways both great and small.
After relocating with her husband to Rio Rancho, NM, Joanne wholeheartedly embraced her new community. She quickly became involved in the Church of the Incarnation and the Citizen’s Emergency Response Team (CERT), forging meaningful and cherished friendships along the way. Her warmth, generosity, and willingness to serve will be deeply missed.
Joanne’s greatest joy in life came from her family, particularly her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She adored Olivia, Sean, and Jordan with unmatched love, and her fierce devotion to her family was a testament to her boundless heart.
Joanne is survived by her son, Chris Allen, Keith Allen (predeceased) and stepchildren, Pat Salerno III, Sean Salerno, and Michelle Salerno. Joanne also leaves behind her cherished daughters-in-law, Ilse Allen, Alison Salerno, and Loren Salerno, along with her loving sister, Dianne Howard, her husband Ned, and many extended family members who loved her dearly.
Joanne will forever be remembered for her unwavering faith, her generous spirit, and the love she so freely gave to all. Her memory will remain a source of strength and inspiration for those who knew and loved her.
Services to honor Joanne's life will be held at The Church of the Incarnation, 2309 Monterrey Road, Rio Rancho, NM 87144, on Thursday, October 31st. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a Rosary at 10:30 am and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will take place immediately afterward at Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho, NM.
Joanne's legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Church of the Incarnation in Joanne’s memory.
