Chavez, Joe F
Joe F. Chavez, age 90, passed away September 15, 2016. He was born in Willard, raised in Torreon, NM and a resident of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Concepcion Chavez; and 10 brothers and sisters. Joe is survived by his wife Lily of 65 years; children Geraldine (Pat Murphy), Ron (Edna), Donna Chavez, Elaine (Pat) Sanchez, James (Tena), Elizabeth (Pete Zamora), and Carol Chavez; brother Tony Chavez and sister Amalia Tafoya. He has 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, many in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Joe was a salesman and business owner. He served in the 63rd Infantry Division during World War II and was severely wounded in combat. Joe was an advocate for veterans. He served as Chapter Commander, Department Commander and National Junior Vice-Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He also was Chapter and Department Commander of the DAV. He was a life member of the VFW and American Legion. He was President of the St. Joseph’s Society in Torreon that was founded by his father. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting.
We would like to thank the staff at the Veterans Administration Hospital who provided excellent medical care throughout his life.
Services will be held on Friday, September 23, at 10:00am, at St. Charles Barromeo Church, on 1818 Coal Pl SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106 and interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
