DURAN - Joe M. Duran peacefully passed away after a 17 year battle with Alzheimer's, on Saturday January 24th, 2009. Born in 1922 in Albuquerque to Miguel A. and Josephine Duran, Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Isabel, daughters Beverly Duran, Margaret Duran and Antonio Sing, three grandchildren Steven and wife Claudia Lucero, Tamara and husband Gokul Rajaram, Joseph Sing-Duran, two great grandchildren Ari and Natasha Rajaram, two brothers Mike, wife Carmen, and George Duran, sister-in-law Esther Armijo, many nieces and nephews and his loving caregivers Frank Ramirez, Frank Aragon, Jody Villa and Ambercare Hospice. Joe began his career with Ross-Byers Engineering in 1946 ultimately retiring as a geodetic engineer, City of Albuquerque, also working as a surveyor with the Army Corp of Engineers and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Joe proudly served in the US Army in WWII, Battery B 469th Anti-aircraft Artillery Battalion as a heavy machine gunner in three campaigns in the Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, Luzon and Southern Philippines, and awarded the Victory Medal Asian-Pacific Theater, Philippines Liberation Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal. He was member of the (VFW) Veterans of Foreign Wars, (DAV) Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Post's 13 & 99. Pallbearers will be Steven Lucero, Joseph Sing Duran, Gokul Rajaram, Frank Ramirez, Frank Aragon, and Jody Villa. Honorary Pallbears are Antonio Sing, Mike Duran, George Duran, Reynold Armijo, and Larry Armijo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the UNM Cancer Research Center c/o the UNM Foundation Inc., 700 Woodward NE, Albuquerque NM 87102. Services have been entrusted to:
