Reverend Joe Earl Mangram Sr., 87, died Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Ladera Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Maria (Dominguez) Mangram; his son, Joe Mangram; his daughters, Tamara Mangram and Ranisha Mangram; six grandchildren; and many close friends.
He was born and raised in Matador Texas, the son of Charlie and Hula (Hill) Mangram. At the age of 13, his mother would pass and this would eventually lead to him leaving Texas for New Mexico.
In his early years, Reverend Mangram would help his mother and father working in the fields of Texas farmers. After graduating from Albuquerque High School, he joined the United States Army in 1953. While stationed at Fort Bliss, in El Paso Texas, he met his wife, Maria Dominguez at the NCO Club, and they were married in 1975 at New Hope Baptist Church. Reverend Mangram would retire from the Army after 20 years of service and permanently call Albuquerque home.
After leaving the Army, Reverend Mangram became a correctional officer for the City of Albuquerque. In 1994 he once again reached eligibility for retirement and would close out yet another career, this time retiring from the City of Albuquerque after many years of faithful service.
Reverend Mangram had a passion for the word of God. He would regularly read and study his bible. While serving as a correction officer, he created a weekly bible study group for the inmates under his care.
An avid fisher, he was known for packing up his poles and taking his wife, kids, or grandkids to random fishing holes at a moments notice. Reverend Mangram loved to barbeque and spend quality time with his family. He thoroughly enjoyed when all his children and grandchildren would visit at once and fill his home.
Reverend Mangram loved to bring people to God and loved those around him. He will be dearly missed.
