Olona, Joe Baca

1924-2018

On January 10, 2018, Joe Baca Olona, 93, went home to be with his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by 11 days, the love of his life, his darling wife of 71 years, Dolores Olona. Also preceded in death: his precious son, Carl Olona; Joe’s brother, Robert Olona. Joe is survived by his: son Eloy Olona; daughter and son-n-law Virginia and Mickey Soto; sons and daughters-n-law, Donald (Ollie) and Marlene Olona; Gerald and Vina Olona; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; Joe’s sister Dolores (Dolly) Nieto.

Joe was a Veteran who proudly served and fought in World War II as a U.S. Marine.

Our dad and grandfather’s greatest achievements are, that he retired from the New Mexico Air National Guard as a Chief Master Sergeant. Also, worked and retired from Civil Service at Kirtland AFB. Joe worked hard to become a licensed private and commercial pilot.

Thank you dad, for teaching us, that it is greater to give than to receive, unconditional love, compassion and forgiveness. You were a great, fun sense of humor, loving, affectionate dad and grandpa in every way. Dad, all of us, are so proud of you. You are greatly missed.

A special thanks to all the VA staff, who were so compassionate, helpful, and treated our dad with such dignity. And also, a very special thanks to two wonderful caregivers, Jamie and Marta, who gave such love and care to both Mom and Dad. We love you dearly.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. with a Funeral Service following at 5:00 p.m. at New Beginnings Church. Interment will be Friday, January 19, 2018, at 12:45 p.m., Santa Fe National Cemetery.
