Joe S. Sanchez age 91, was granted his Angel Wings on Thursday, August 06, 2015. He was surrounded by his immediate family as he passed peacefully in the comfort of his home. He is preceded in death by his wife Alice M. Sanchez of sixty-eight years. He was born to Jose Guadalupe Sanchez and Cenovia Valencia-Sanchez on September 18, 1923 in Cimarron, New Mexico. He joined the Army/Aircorp to serve in WWII as a tail gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber, flying a total of 52 missions and awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. Joe worked as a long haul truck driver for most of his life retiring from Yellow Freight to work and retire from the City of Albuquerque. Then opened up his own business, Sanchez Mobile Home Park in Taos, NM. He was also a farmer at heart maintaining his Apple Orchard in Pilar, NM. Joe was an active member of Queen of Heaven Parish where he served as Greeter and usher, a member of Lady of Guadalupe Society, and a member of Knights of Columbus. Joe was blessed with 5 children to help him through his last few years. Son Ralph Sanchez, wife Inez, Irene Contreras, Ruth Chavez, Clarence Sanchez, Jerry Sanchez, wife Velma. He had 7 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at 6:00 pm, with a Rosary to follow at Queen of Heaven Parish, 5311 Phoenix Ave, NE Albuquerque, NM. Mass will take place on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at 9:00 am at Queen of Heaven Parish. A burial with full Military honors will be held on Wednesday August 12, 2015 at 2:15 pm, at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Honorary Pallbearers: Michael Sanchez, Martin Sanchez, Joe Sanchez, Aaron Pacheco, Oliver Tapia, and Roy Deaguero.
