John W. Black, Lt. Col (Ret.), age 79, beloved father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully, early Saturday morning, December 14, 2013, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Greensburg, PA on July 16, 1934 and was a resident of Albuquerque, NM for 44 years. John was a proud retired veteran of the United States Air Force, who served his country during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed sailing and skiing in his spare time. He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. Black and Gladys Silvis; and brother Neil Black. John is survived by his loving children, Jerry W. Black and wife Donna Benjamin, Jill Logan and husband Pax Garcia, Scott Black, Bonnie Langdon and husband Steve; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and longtime companion, Barbara. Also surviving are his siblings, Ruth Jean Schuck, Ronnie Black, Ray Black, Marge Fritz, Gladys Little, and Dwayne Black; the mother of his children, Elaine Harrold; and other numerous relatives and friends. John will be greatly missed by his family and by those whose hearts he touched. Graveside Services will be conducted Friday, December 20, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
