John Kent Boice

John Kent Boice "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;" John Kent Boice (62) beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by loved ones, following a year-long illness. John was born August 3, 1946 in Alamosa, Colorado to Delbert and Blanche Boice. He was raised in Farmington, New Mexico, where he graduated from Farmington High School. After attending Brigham Young University, he graduated from Northwestern University Dental School, and Northwestern University Orthodontic School class of 1975. During his life, John was dedicated to hard work and service. He was an orthodontist for 34 years. Dr. Boice loved his profession, and took great pride in creating beautiful smiles throughout the county. He also taught in the Dental Hygiene Program at San Juan Community College. He was loved and respected by his office staff, patients, as well as those in the community; he was a friend to all, and will be deeply missed. John married the love of his life, Susan Peterson on September 10, 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they raised two beautiful children. They spent almost 40 wonderful years together. Family was the most important part of John's life. He loved spending time with them, especially his three cherished grandchildren. John was a faithful member of the LDS Church. Through out his life he served in riesthood leadership positions; first, as a missionary in the South West British Mission (1966-68) and later as a Bishop, as well as filling many Stake and Ward positions. One of his favorite callings was as a Sunday school teacher for the 16 year olds. He loved the Scriptures and was a devoted gospel scholar. He was an avid tennis player, model railroader, and loved to travel. He is preceded in death by his son and best friend, John Spencer Boice; parents, Delbert and Blanche Boice, and in-laws, Cornell and Helen Peterson. John is survived in life by his beloved wife, Susan; daughter Brittany Boice Weidauer (Jason), daughter-in-law Michelle Boice; grandchildren Christian and Owen Weidauer, and Breanna Boice; brothers Robert (Merlene) and Ronald (Nora) Boice; as well as a large and loving extended family. Services conducted by Bishop Mike Lacey. Burial following at Greenlawn Cemetery, Farmington, NM.
