Dowling, John P.
(February 9, 1922 - January 14, 2016)
Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, John P. Dowling passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 14, 2016. He was just shy of 94 years old. He served his country in WWII as a pilot in the Army Air Corps, flying a PBY Catalina (an American flying boat) in search and rescue missions in the Pacific. (He was awarded the Air Medal for his service). After the war, he returned to his job at Grumman Aircraft, Long Island, NY, and married Patricia McGovern Dowling. They were married for 58 years and had four children: Dr. Ellen Dowling, of Rio Rancho, NM, Dr. Jon Dowling, of Baton Rouge, LA, Dr. Michael Dowling, of Regensburg, Germany, and Dr. Trisha Dowling, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. An avid golfer and sports enthusiast all his life, John was also a member of the Irish-American Society of New Mexico and a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas church. He is predeceased by his wife, Pat. He is survived by his children and their spouses (Don Baker, Rita Dowling, and Brian Zwaan), his grandchildren (Brando, Philip, Martin, Christine, John Patrick, and Jessica), and his great-grandson (Xzavier). His funeral mass will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Thursday, January 21, at 10:30 AM.
