FERTIG - John (Jack) L. Fertig, Jr., born August 25, 1925 to John L. and Mabel Healey Fertig in La Junta, CO, died September 24, 2009 in Rio Rancho, NM. Jack is survived by his wife of 40 years, Waltreen (Waddie) S. Fertig, daughter Jane Fertig Paternoster, son-in-law Steve Paternoster, and grandchildren Jackson Cole and Jameson Reed. Sister-in-laws Kay McMann and Marienne Stauffer (Bob); local nieces and nephews are Gregg and Dee McMann and Bill and Lorie Julander, and many more nieces, nephews, and out of town grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Jack attended Albuquerque High for 2 years before SFRR transferred them back to La Junta where he graduated in 1943. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Navy, attended V-12 school at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, and later served on USS LST 1148 during WWII, being honorably discharged in 1946. Jack graduated from the University of Denver in 1948, was recalled to the Korean War in 1952, and discharged in late 1953. With his civil engineering degree, Jack was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation, Factory Mutual Engineering, and retired from County of Santa Barbara Flood Control in September, 1989. He and Waddie moved to Rio Rancho immediately upon retirement and Jack served for ten years as a Docent at the Albuquerque Museum of Art & History, was an active member of Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church, the Friends of the Library, and the Rio Rancho Kiwanis Club. He will be missed parking cars at the Balloon Fiesta this year. Jack's care has been entrusted to: Daniels Family Funeral Services
