At the age of 94, John passed away quietly in his home in Corrales, NM on Tuesday, October 14, 2014. He was born in Sterling Colorado on November 30, 1919, to Chauncey Keen Noel and Pauline Catherine Noel-Schaefer, the eldest of 7 children. He was preceded in death by his father Chauncey Keen, mother Pauline Catherine, sister Eloise (Simpleman), sister Mary Margaret (Burden), sister Clara Jo (Gow), Bernadette (Noel), wife Opal Dean and daughter Sharon Lea (Cole). John retired from APS after teaching mathematics & Algebra prep to many beloved students for 34 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1945, the Colorado National Guard from 1938-1939, and 1948-1950, the New Mexico National Guard from 1941-1944 and 1952-1979, and the New Mexico State Defense Force from 1979-2002. Among his many special accomplishments, he was most proud of achieving the rank of Major General in the New Mexico State Defense Force. John was awarded the following service medals during his years with the United States Army: Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star with V Device and Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Medal, EAME Medal with 3 Campaign Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Armed Forces Reserves Medal, and the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal.  His decorations from the State of New Mexico include, Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Medal of Merit, Outstanding Service Medal, and Long Service Medal (2nd award). From France, John received the Medaille de la France Liberee. John attended Longmont, High School, Longmont CO graduating in 1937, then Colorado State Junior College, Trinidad, CO earning an Associate Arts degree in 1948, followed by Colorado State of Education with a BA in Education, Greeley CO in 1950, followed by the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM with an MA in Education, NM in 1955. He did his Post Graduate work at New Mexico State University in 1959, as well as the University of New Mexico, 1963-1977. He ended his formal schooling at Holyrood Seminary in Liberty, New York with a Certificate of Theological Training and was Ordained an Angelican Catholic Priest in Albuquerque, NM on November 30, 1984. John's hobbies and interests included his family, animals, biology, gardening, and travel. He was a proud member of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine - Ballut Abyad Temple, Albuquerque, NM, the Masonic Temple and the Elks Lodge. He was a life member of VFW, the MOWW, as well as the Purple Heart Society. John was also a member and supporter of St. Peter's Angelican Catholic Church. John is survived by his daughter, DeAnna  Hare of Albuquerque, NM, a sister Pauline Catherine Ranalo of Hartshorne, OK, and a brother James Thomas Noel of San Diego, CA, as well as a special friend Anita Jo Berry of Corrales NM. His grandchildren Michelle Hallett (Rick), Tamara Cole, Charles M. Cole, Jr., Christopher A. Cole, Ariana Hudgens (Bill), and Jana Brisbois. His great-grandchildren Rachel Hallett, Drew Hallett, Heather Cole, Christopher L. Cole, Aaron Hunke, Morgan Hunke, Aidan Brisbois, and Haylee Brisbois. His great-great grandchildren Peyton Barney, Kipton Barney, and Lilah Wilson. A Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at 10:00 am, St. Peter's Holy Catholic Church Anglican Rite, 8100 Eubank Blvd NE Albuquerque NM, 87122.  A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at 2:00 pm, Daniel's Family Funeral, 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.  There will be a reception following the Memorial Service at Daniel's Family Funeral. Interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, on Monday November 3, 2014 at 12:45pm. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Presbyterian Hospice.
