John E. Otto

After a valiant fight, John succumbed to cancer on August 29, 2017. He died peacefully with family at his side. A native of Albuquerque, John graduated from New Mexico Military Institute and was Marine Corp Reserve. Always referred to as a great guy, he loved sports and fishing, was an avid reader and a fun-loving jokester.

After a water-cooler romance, he married Sally on September 4, 1982. Together, they traveled to many places around the world before welcoming two daughters. He was an amazing, attentive father who could fix anything, whether with tools or a hug. We will miss the many Sunday mornings that he spent in the kitchen making breakfasts, as well as the Thanksgiving turkey carvings with the dogs at his feet, hoping for scraps.

Dad, we will spread your ashes in all your favorite places.

John and his family would like to thank UNM Hospital staff for all their incredible care and compassion. At the family’s request, a private service will be held.
