John "Phil" McLain

McLain, John Phillip
Age 81, passed away at his home in Socorro, NM surrounded by his family on Monday, May 9, 2016. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona on October 1, 1934, to George and Willie (Henderson) McLain. He attended the University of Arizona and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married the first love of his life Shirley Pendleton in May of 1955 and had two sons and one daughter. He moved to Socorro in 1957 to join the New Mexico Tech TERA Group, Becoming the Director of the group later in his career. After losing his first wife in 1988, he married the second love of his life Patricia Quick in October 1991 and accepted a second loving family into his life including three daughters and one son. Phil was a lifelong University of Arizona Wildcats fan. He was an avid golfer who always enjoyed the game. Phil was a true rock hound and enjoyed collecting and processing rocks for craft shows. He was an avid sports fan always watching basketball, football and golf. Phil always had a good joke to tell and was very humorous and outgoing. He was a genuine family man and was loved by both his large family and numerous friends. He is survived by his second wife, Patricia (Patti); Daughter, Debi Silva and husband Matthew; Son, Jim McLain and wife Anna; Daughter, Dodie Knight and husband John; Daughter, Kelly McLain and husband John Cates; Son, Bert Quick and wife Kathy; Son, Walter McLain and wife Barbara and Daughter Theresa Garcia and husband Michael. As well as 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Shirley; his brother, Bill McLain; his sister, Margaret Frazier and grandson Logan Winn. There will be a celebration of life ceremony at the Bodega Burger in Socorro on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Please try to join us.
