John Anthony Soens

Soens, John Anthony, Sr. was born the eldest of 11 children on April 23rd 1947 to Ernest and Mary Soens.  He grew up in South Bend, Indiana where Notre Dame and the woods surrounding the family home were his playground.  He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1965 and joined the U.S. Navy.  After serving he moved to Roswell, NM where he met Lupe Soens and married into another large family of 10.  In the early 1990’s he and his family moved to Rio Rancho, NM where he spent the remainder of his life.  He was predeceased by his wife Lupe Soens, his daughter, Laura Marie Soens and he is survived and will be missed by his children John Anthony Soens, Jr., Brian Joseph Soens, Londi Marie Soens and his grandchildren Samuel Joseph Soens, William Joseph Soens, and soon to be born Azariah Soens Gonzales, as well as countless relatives and friends. He worked as a policeman, fireman, bus and truck driver.  He enjoyed country music, weightlifting, & sports.  He relished the art of conversation and practiced the “gift of gab” because he truly enjoyed visiting with and cared about people. He departed life June 29th, 2017. A memorial mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church July 3rd 2017 at 10:30 a.m.  A reception and lunch will be held at the Italian American Club on Sara Road in Rio Rancho following the ceremony.
