John R. Srubas, 89, of Albuquerque, NM�beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother�passed away peacefully on May 14, 2014. He was born on July 12, 1924, to Peter and Agnes Srubas of Chicago. He grew up on the city�s north side. After graduating from Austin High School, John enlisted in the US Army and served as a communications lineman in Europe during World War II. Upon returning to the United States, he attended college on the GI Bill and earned a degree in Economics from Roosevelt University. He married his sweetheart, Alice Tarpinian, in 1957 and raised three children in Hinsdale, Illinois. For many years, John worked for the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors as a technical writer and editor. He was a capable household handyman who also enjoyed cooking, travel, reading, opera, and crossword puzzles. Like many men of his generation, he was a dedicated provider who expressed love for his family through quiet, unselfish acts of practical problem-solving. John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Irene. He is survived by his wife, Alice, children, Jonathan (Gayle), Amy (Michael), and Rachel (Ken), brother, Paul, and grandchildren, Ellis, Kendall, and Jacklyn. He is mourned, missed, and fondly remembered. A memorial gathering took place at Las Placitas Presbyterian Church in Placitas, NM on May 17, 2014. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Chicago, Illinois.
