Johnnie H. Garcia peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at the age of 84.
 
Johnnie is survived by loving wife Piedad Garcia; daughters Kathy Garcia Quezada and husband David, and Lisa Garcia Lane and husband Jonathan; brother Ralph Garcia; grandchildren: Ernest Byers Jr. and wife Jennifer, Gabriel Garcia, Jennifer Menke and husband Patrick, Danielle Uchtman and husband Jody, Jessica Wood and husband Gary, Baylee Burk and husband Trevor; great grandchildren: Ernie, Jack, Maddison, Ellyanna, Paxton, Preston, Parker, Dylan, Peyton, and baby boy Wood; numerous nieces and nephews, relatives, and a host of dear friends. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents Jose Garcia and Bessie Smith Garcia, son Martin Robert Garcia, and ten siblings.
 
Johnnie was born on December 8, 1936 in Jemez Springs, New Mexico to Jose and Bessie Garcia. He married Piedad Roybal his high school sweetheart, on August 25, 1956 and enjoyed 64 years of happy marriage. The couple welcomed three wonderful children, Martin, Kathy, and Lisa into the world. It was evident that God was the center of their family.
 
Johnnie enlisted in the New Mexico Air National Guard in 1953. He was called to active duty during the Vietnam War. He excelled in the US Air Force Senior NCO Academy and the schools he attended. He received numerous awards and citations during his 39 years of service and retired as Chief Master Sergeant and was a lifelong member of the US Enlisted Association. After retirement he and Piedad rebuilt the family home in Jemez Springs and spent memorable weekends there. He served as the mayor of Jemez Springs for nine years. During his time as mayor, a few of his accomplishments include building sidewalks through the village; expanding the library; and the village’s purchase of the Leyba and for community use. Johnnie and Piedad served as parish council presidents at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Jemez Springs for over twenty years. They were instrumental in raising funds to build the parish hall. He was also chairman of the Jemez Springs Water Co-Op for many years.
