Jolinda Dallin, 64 years old, of Magdalena, New Mexico, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Jolinda was born in Oklahoma City, OK on September 2, 1949 to Jean and Harold Tharrett, the second child of five. When Jolinda was three years old, she and her family moved to Houston, TX, where she grew up and graduated high school. Throughout her youth, Jolinda loved to travel with her family to Wimberley, TX to camp and swim in the Blanco River. She relished spending time with her older sister she admired deeply and her three younger brothers whom she adored. From her mother, she learned to make an adventure out of every day life, to find treasures at yard sales, to make the best tuna casserole, and to walk through life with grace, persistent strength, and tolerance and loving kindness for all humanity and the environment. A natural healer, Jolinda went to college at the Texas Womens University in Denton, TX where she worked hard to earn her degree in Physical Therapy in May of 1974. As a college student, she was involved in campus advocacy efforts and protests against industrial pollution and its effects on the environment. She loved to swim and ride her bike in between her studies and she sewed her own very fashionable 70s clothing. While growing up, Jolinda shared with her mother and sister that she wanted to marry a tall, dark handsome man that liked dogs. On September 8, 1973, while working and living in San Antonio, TX, Jolinda volunteered to help serve food at the Texas Folk Life Festival. She admired the tall, dark haired good looking man from New York playing Irish songs with his guitar on the stage. He also admired her, and visited the food stand to buy Irish stew from Jolinda four times before getting up the courage to talk with her. They spent the rest of the day together and at the end of the festival, an older Irish woman walked up to them and asked, When shall we plan on attending the wedding? From that day on, Jolinda and Bob Dallin were together for 40 years and enjoyed the company of many dogs and other animals. They were married on December 14, 1974 in Laredo, TX by Father George, who also married the parents of Bob in 1945. In their first years married, Jolinda and Bob enjoyed taking drives together in the rural outdoors, trips to the beach in Mexico, and living in small, Texas towns. They were also happy to start a family. On June 25, 1976, in San Antonio, TX they welcomed their first baby girl into this world, Kathleen Marie Dallin. Kathleen brought joy into their lives like only a child can and gave them many memories, like the times that Jolinda dressed Kathleen up in patent leather shoes and would inevitably find Kathleen playing outside with her feet in the dog water. On June 29th, 1978, Jolinda and Bob had their second daughter, Meghann Eileen Dallin. Jolinda loved the moments she caught Meghann squatting down, playing with and investigating bugs and worms outside in the Texas countryside. Jolinda and Bob were so excited and happy to welcome to their family their little boy, Jonathan Patrick Dallin, on December 6, 1979. Jonathan showed his parents and the doctor just how mischievous and stubborn he was by peeing on the doctor the moment he was born.Jolinda was an amazing, patient, creative, loving mother to her three children. She took her children to yard sales just like she did with her mother, made an ordinary day exciting by driving with her kids down new, unchartered dirt roads just to see where they led, and put together the most creative and fun birthday parties. She sewed clothes for her children to celebrate special occasions and patiently taught her daughters how to sew. She was her childrens number one cheerleader in anything and everything good they wanted to accomplish as children and adults. Like her mother taught her, Jolinda taught her children to make an adventure out of every day life, to find treasures at yard sales, to make the best tuna casserole, and to walk through life with grace, persistent strength, and tolerance and loving kindness for all humanity and the environment. Jolinda and Bob moved to Magdalena, NM in 2002, at which time Jolinda continued her work as a physical therapist at Presbyterian Socorro General Hospital. Jolinda and Bob had lived in and loved many different places, but in moving to Magdalena, they found their forever home and a community of friends who accepted and loved them for everything they are. That community has come and supported Jolindas family with strength and compassion during this time of her passing. Together, Jolinda and Bob rescued stray and abused animals and opened their home and land up to create Magoos Animal Sanctuary. Jolinda fervently learned to play the harp and shared her lovely music with people at hospice ceremonies and at their catholic church in Datil, NM. In the past year, Jolinda realized her dream of creating a beautiful garden, a place of tranquility and peace, with tomatoes, melons, squash, and sage. Besides fulfilling her interests and demonstrating loving compassion to the animals she and Bob took in, especially her beloved dog Kinsey, Jolinda nurtured her lifelong passion for physical therapy and healing those in pain. In her 38-year career as a physical therapist, Jolinda worked with many wonderful people and truly loved her coworkers, trainees, and patients at Soccoro General Hospital. Jolinda always strived to increase her knowledge so that she was able to provide the most effective and current therapies for her patients. In the last several years, Jolinda worked diligently to get her certification in trigger point therapy and dry needling therapy, which she was able to implement at the hospital and was successful in helping to relieve her patients of long-term pain quickly. This brought complete joy and pride to Jolinda that she was able to bring relief for her patients. Jolindas life blossomed and brightened March 17, 2011, on the morning of the birth of her special granddaughter, Madeleine Mae Harvold. Having Madeleine in her life brought so much joy and happiness to Jolinda, she was now Grammi. She desired and strived to show Madeleine all of the beauty and good things in the world and shared with her to fight with compassion for the good and decent things in this world that you believe in. The last visit Jolinda had with her granddaughter was to watch Madeleine in her dance class. During the free dance, Madeleine glided up to the window her mama and Grammi were watching her from and danced graciously for her Grammi. Jolinda was so happy she got to witness this and that Madeleine shared this with her. Jolinda would like us all to honor and celebrate her life by striving to have love and compassion for each other and to care for the world we live in. To seek and to find the beauty in the everyday. This is a beautiful day.Jolinda was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved bother, Lee Tharrett.
