Jose Ruben Cisneros (Ruben) Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico surrounded by his family. At the time of his death, Ruben was 89 years of age and a life-long resident of Questa, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his children, Loretta and Manuel Cisneros; parents, Lauriano (JL) and Sovieda Cisneros; sister, Irma Robinson. Ruben is survived by his wife of 59 years, Crucita Cisneros of Questa, NM; children, David Cisneros (Life Partner Eileen Serna) of Albuquerque, NM, Michael (Paula) of Espanola, NM, Sandra Flores (Mark) of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren, Andrea Romero (Matthew) of Tempe, AZ, Michael Paul Cisneros of Espanola, NM, Ruben Abe Cisneros of Houston, TX, Marissa and Marcos Flores of Rio Rancho, NM, several great-grandchildren; Siblings, Aurora Gonzalez, Larry Cisneros (Isabel), and Viola Spalding (Bob). Ruben was a graduate of St. Michael High School in Santa Fe. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII in China, Burma, and India. Ruben was offered and accepted a basketball scolarship at New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) in Las Vegas. After his graduation from NMHU he moved back to Questa where he was employed by the Questa Public Schools for 34 years. While teaching at Questa HS he was better known to his students as Mr. C. Ruben taught Physical Education, Civics, and Drivers Education. He became the first Head Coach for the Wildcats and continued to coach the Wildcats for the first 20 years of the program. He later went on to become the Athletic Director until his retirement in 1985. Ruben was a devout Roman Catholic and had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. He found sanctuary in the Holy Rosary. Ruben was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Questa. He lived a faithful, devoted life and was a role model to his friends and family. In his early years, Ruben enjoyed gardening, farming, hunting, fishing and dancing. In his later years, he could be seen driving around Questa in his turquoise Dodge Ram as he checked his animals and property. Ruben will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for his warm, loving heart.
