Our beloved father, Jose F. Martinez, 88, of Socorro, New Mexico, was called home on September 11, 2023. He was born to Alfredo and Rita (Giron) Martinez in El Gauche near Española, NM. He was an Army veteran and long-time Warrior fan through his children and grandchildren.
Jose is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Anna Marie, Lilia, Antonio, Paul, and daughter, baby Francine.
His loving wife of 64 years to Fabiola , sister Ramoncita, daughters Janice, Jacqueline, Jeanette & (Gary Alexander), and Judy, and sons Joseph & (Debbie Riggins), Lloyd & (Mary Lozano), and Jonathan will miss him greatly. His grandsons Josh, Jordan, Joseph, Manny, Derek, Andre, Samuel, and Blake. His granddaughters Mequette, Bethany, Monique, Chantil, Amanda, Vanessa, Samantha, Alexis, Cassie, Jasmine, and Jonna. His legacy continues in his seven children, nineteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Jose served his country as a radar engineer in the Army. As an electronic engineer, he was a proud crew member to help land the Space Shuttle Columbia at White Sand Missile Range in 1982. The landing on the gypsum surface of Northrup Strip was difficult but successful.
He championed his children daily, leading cheers in the stands when they played sports and mentoring them in life. His favorite role was being a husband, father, and Christian man active in the San Miguel Catholic Church.
In retirement, Jose became a prolific poet, appearing in a special edition of “The Best Poems of the 90s”. As a songwriter, composer, and musician, he revered the love of his life, Fabiola, in music. As a carpenter, he and his children built their home in Socorro, and it was a labor of love.
We are truly grateful to have had him in our lives and for all the heartfelt condolences from our relatives and friends
