Jose "Joe" Ernesto Hernandez, age 78, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2020. He was born in El Paso, TX on November 7, 1941, to Jose and Consuelo 'Lupe' Hernandez.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Hernandez; mother, Consuelo 'Lupe' Hernandez.
Joe is survived by his most beloved wife, Elvira "Daisy" Hernandez of Rio Rancho, NM; sons, Darrek (Susan) Hernandez of Tucson, AZ; Kenny (Katharine) Hernandez of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Trisha Ballweg of Stevens Point, WI; sister, Yolie Franco of El Paso, TX; grandchildren, Lia, Aaron, Jamie, Nolan, Jordan, and Alexus. He is also survived by his much-loved extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Joe graduated in 1961 from Jefferson High School in El Paso, TX. He then proudly served in Vietnam, as an E3 in the United States Air Force. He received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his four years of service. Service was a theme in Joe's life as he then continued to serve his community for 17 years on the Los Alamos Fire Department. After the fire department, he went on to work at Los Alamos National Labs where he retired after 16 years of service.
Joe met the love of his life, wife Daisy (Viramontes), and they married in November 1963. In their 57 years together, they built a beautiful life, which included three wonderful children, and six beautiful grandchildren. Joe has a passion for classic cars, and firearms. In his free time, he could often be found reading, fishing, or out in the garden.

Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He will forever live on in our hearts and memories.
