Joe Ventura Toledo 1919 ~ 2017 Joe Ventura Toledo, 97, of Albuquerque, father of 12 children died at his home on September 20th 2017.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years and two sons (Steve and Ernest) & a daughter (Emily) and son-in-law (Oliver Ifill); five brothers, (Prospero, Tony, Jess, Samuel, Solomon) and two sisters (Emily and Theresa). He is survived by his children: Margie Hills (Charles); Lorraine Kauffman (Thomas) ; Anne Bliss (Patrick) ; Raymond Toledo (Patricia); Patrick Toledo (Anna-Lena); Larry Toledo (Robyn); Eugene Toledo; Janice Toledo; and Emma Ifill. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Charles (Christi); Nancy; Jeff; Joy McCoy (Michael); Ben (Annie); Kara; Toby; William (Clint); Justin; Joseph; Gabriel; David (Jill)—and seven great-grandchildren: Alexander, Dominique, Kevin, Charlie, Riley, Emma and Olive. He is also survived by a brother (Joe Manuel) three sisters (Evangelina Rogers, Nora Gallegos and Soila) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe was born December 11, 1919 to Jose Maria Toledo and Feliz Emilia Maez. He served during World War II in Okinawa along with his five brothers who served in different branches of the military. Joe retired in 1979 from the Santa Fe Railroad after working for 34 years. He was a hard worker and his goal was to be retired for as many years as he had worked. He accomplished that goal and had many years to travel and spend time with his family.
The family wishes to thank his caregivers: Anthony Maez (Cousin), Jeff Kauffman (Grandson), Geraldine, Lydia, Sara and Kristina for providing many years of outstanding care and kindness. Also, his family appreciated Presbyterian Hospice for their excellent assistance and especially his nurses, Jessica, Lana and Hayat for their professionalism, respect and dependability these last few months.
Joe will always be remembered for his strength, wisdom and capacity to appreciate everything positive in his life. He had a strong and loving heart. He was always grateful and didn’t dwell on hard times. His love of music helped get him through the hard times. Joe was a generous and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Although his later years were a struggle, he faced all of his challenges
with patience, discipline and graciousness. Joe died satisfied with his life, knowing he was loved and that he was never a burden on his family. We will miss his loving support, kindness and his sense of humor.
Joe’s family suggests that in his memory; if you have not already done so and if your conscience allows, that you become an organ donor. Please add the “donor” designation to your driver’s license or state ID card, or register in your state’s organ donor registry. Even becoming a donor of blood or platelets is an act of great generosity that bestows blessings on many others. The need is ever present and the impact profound.
