Joseph (Joe) Stanton, 68, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2019. Joe was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and resided in Antioch, California and Socorro, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia. Beloved father of Joseph Jr., Christine, Jennifer, Timothy, 6 grandchildren, and brothers James and Kevin. Joe is preceded in death by his parents John Francis and Mary Margaret (Nee) Stanton, brothers Roger and Thomas Stanton.
Joe spent 30 years in the steel mills, first in Homestead, Pennsylvania where he also served as Financial Secretary for the local union. In 1986, he and his family moved to Pittsburg, California and Joe worked for Posco Steel where was elected President of the Union until his retirement in 2001.
Joe was a determined man and he faced his extensive battle with cancer with courage. He had a firm will and an admirable moral compass. He also enjoyed his many hobbies such as playing horseshoes, pool, and bowling. He had a giant personality and loved his family immensely. Joe is much loved and will be forever missed.
A visitation will be held at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 309 Garfield Street in Socorro on September 12, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Rosary to be recited on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at 7:00 pm at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real , Socorro. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 13, 2019, at 9:00 am at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro. Celebrant Rev. John Anasiudu. Burial will take place at San Miguel Catholic Cemetery following service.
Joe would prefer in lieu of flowers, donations to be sent to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Ste 200, Manhattan Beach, California 90266-3721.
