Joseph A. “Joe” Valencia, age 88, a resident of Rio Rancho for 30 years, passed away April 17, 2017 in Rio Rancho, NM.  Joe was born October 23, 1928 in Nambe, NM to Isuaro and Aurelia (Gonzales) Valencia. His birth name was Jose Amado Valencia. Apart from a brief period of time where he lived in California, Joe lived in New Mexico most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Joe then worked in a Civil Service capacity with the U.S. Navy until his retirement. Joe was blessed to have traveled much of the world. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and he especially loved to dance. He could really “cut a rug”!  Joe is survived by his three children; Kenneth, Cynthia Chandler and Stephen; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; seven siblings; Robert Valencia and wife Erlinda, Jace Valencia, Ephriam Valencia, Esther Silva and husband Frank, Levi Valencia and wife Barbara, Dan Valencia and Lubin Valencia. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.  Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Eli. Visitation will be 10 am on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 with a Celebration of Joe’s life to follow at 11 am both a Daniels Family Funeral Services, 4310 Sara Road SE at Meadowlark Lane in Rio Rancho.  Interment will be at Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho.
