Josephine Atencio

Atencio, Josephine Age 90, beloved aunt, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully Friday, July 26, 2013. She was a resident of Bernalillo, NM, where she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters for over 25 years, a member of the Blue Army and the Eucharistic Ministry; she also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Lady's Auxiliary. Josephine received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for Dr. Butler in Bernalillo, NM until his retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, and devoted her life to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her parents, Noe and Serafina Trujillo; first husband, Maberto Atencio; second husband, Frank Atencio; stepchildren, Herman Atencio, Vangie Huchmala and Uvaldo Atencio; her sister, Erynea Ortega; grandparents, Nicasio and Rosa Cebada; aunt, Mary Bletcher; and beloved niece, Donna Romero. Josephine is survived by her stepchildren, Hazel Herrera and husband Bruno, Marcella Lopez; niece, Serafina Ortega; brother-in-law, Epi Atencio and wife Hilda; Sister-in-laws, Cecilia Aragon and Erlinda Montoya and husband Daniel; cousins, Fabiola Atkison and husband Jimmy, Rosemary Gallegos, Lillie Gallegos (whom she loved dearly and considered a sister), Charlene Chavez and husband Mike, Cynthia Egenes and husband Hans W., Lorenzo Romero, Mel Gallegos and wife Kathy, Brenda Aragon and husband Chris, Kathleen Jones and husband David; including all their children, whom she loved dearly and with whom she spent every holiday and special occasions with throughout her life, Michelle Jacquez, Duane Atkison (godson), Dr. Ron Gallegos, Pat Gallegos and wife Christine, Laurie Baldonado and husband Richard; her closest and dearest friends for over 50 years, Clara and Dave Serbin; special friends, Stella and Robert Martinez, Eva Bevington, Richard Serbin, Cecilia Padilla, Deluvina Valdez, Raymond Gonzales, Peter and Christine Lyle, Emma Gonzales, Rosemary and George Lopez, Annie Carroll and Gloria Jean; and other numerous friends. Josephine will be greatly missed by all. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, in Bernalillo, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. also at the Church. Interment to follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho. Casket Bearers will be Dave Serbin, Epi Atencio, Hans W. Egenes, Benjamin Gallegos, Lorenzo Romero, Mel Gallegos and Alfonso Gutierrez. Honorary Bearers will be Chris Aragon, Mike Chavez, David Jones, Dr. Ron Gallegos, Duane Atkison, Christine Montoya, Danny Montoya, Robert Martinez, Peter Lyle, Richard Serbin, Filemon DeHerrera, Annie Carroll, Raymond Gonzales, Emma Gonzales and all her nieces and nephews.
