Judith Ann Wahe

Judith “Judi” (Vetterick) Wahe, age 73 of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away quietly September 1, 2019, in her home surrounded by her family after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on October 4, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Dale Vetterick and Alberta Purdy Bennett. Judi was born in (Fontenelle, Iowa) and grew up in Creston, Iowa, graduated from Creston Senior High School and the School of Cosmetology. Her first career was as a cosmetologist in Des Moines, IA. She married Jerome “Jerry” Wahe in 1970 and soon moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where Judi embarked on her lifelong career as wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, and school and community volunteer.

Judi was petite yet mighty. She loved the Southwestern landscape she called home and incorporated beautiful original Indian artwork in her home design. She enjoyed crafting and creating beautiful things that she sold at many local craft shows. She was a great cook and always made sure a homemade pie or dessert was on the counter. Her greatest joy and accomplishments came from raising her daughter and then granddaughter. Judi was a girl scout leader and loved helping as a parent teacher volunteer in the classroom. She was also a founding member of the Quintessence Neighborhood Board Association and was instrumental in planning many successful neighborhood park events throughout the years.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry, of 49 years; her daughter, Stephanie Edgell of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter, Caitlin Wahe of Albuquerque, NM; and siblings, Galen Vetterick of Albuquerque, NM, Denise Bennett of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and brother Alan Vetterick of Sapphire, North Carolina. Judi was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Beverly (Vetterick) McCann. She leaves behind many loved ones, neighbors, and friends who loved her and will miss her dearly and remember her always with fondness.

Judi will be laid to rest in a private ceremony on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 5, 2019 at 10247 Jarash Pl. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122 from 12p.m. until 5p.m. for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the New Mexico Cancer Center or the Presbyterian Interventional Radiology Department.
