Kenneth W. Shannon

SHANNON_Kenneth W. Shannon, 66, a resident of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009. Kenneth was born October 18, 1942 the son of Kenneth J. and Clara Shannon in Waterloo, Iowa. Ken earned his Bachelors degree in business from Upper Iowa University and did further graduate studies at the University of Arkansas. In 1964 Ken began a successful 35 year business career in the Oil and Gas industry. He started with Skelly Oil, which later became Getty Oil, and eventually Texaco, where he retired in 1998 as a District Manager. Ken received many achievements and awards for his outstanding work. He was a devoted Catholic and strong in his faith. Ken was a member of the Church of the Incarnation. In retirement, Ken pursued his interests as an avid outdoorsman which included raising and training horses, fishing, hunting, and hiking. Ken also served as a volunteer fire fighter in Trinidad, Colorado. Ken is survived by his wife Kathleen; children, Carolyn Bolding, Susan Portillos, Nancy Smith, and Jimmy Shannon; eight grandchildren; mother, Clara Shannon; siblings, Bernard Shannon, Keith Shannon, and Kathy Gifford.
