Larry Wayne Tatum

Tatum, Larry W. Age 65, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013. He was born in Waycross, GA on November 18, 1947, to Davis and Susie Tatum. Larry is survived by wife, Leona Stoffer-Tatum of Rio Rancho, NM; children, Ryan, Melissa, John and fianc�e Becky Fox; grandchildren, Kayleen, Nathan, Tyler, Natalie and Evan; mother-in-law Dorothea Stoffer; sisters-in-law Mary Tatum, Kathy Guthrie and husband, Kevin; brother-in-law Alan Stoffer and wife Marie; nephews, Shawn, Ward and Kris; and niece, Karrie. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Tatum. Upon high school graduation Larry proudly served in the U.S. Army for three years. He then earned a Bachelors of Science degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. Larry joined the Rio Rancho Police Department in 1981 as one of the original eight officers hired by the Chief to form the first police department when the city was incorporated. He graduated from the FBI Academy in 1992. In 2002, Larry retired from the Rio Rancho Police Department as Lieutenant. He then returned to the department to begin the first Alarm Monitoring program. Larry retired a second time in 2012 but again returned to the department as a volunteer. Mr. Tatum was the first employee in the city of Rio Rancho's history to attain 25 years of service. A visitation for Larry will be held Thursday, September 5, 2013, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Daniels Family Funeral Chapel, 4310 Sara Rd. SE, Rio Rancho, NM.
