Laura Leyba Newton

Laura T. Leyba-Newton, 48, left to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. Laura was born on June 16, 1971, in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Juan De Jesus Leyba and Consuelo S. Leyba. In 1993 she was united in marriage to Travis Newton; they were blessed with their daughter Tesla. Laura was a very accomplished Electrical Engineer, mother, wife, sister and aunt.  She thrived on helping people excel.  She was a very nurturing and loving soul.  In her personal life and in her career, people always came first.  She was not shy about her love of Christ and the gift of Grace he gave us.  Laura was always busy doing something meaningful, like inspiring students to thrive to be engineers, helping people in need that crossed her path, making sure her daughter, nephews and nieces became the best they could be, making memories with her numerous dinner parties. She loved spending time with her husband and daughter.  Laura had a full life.  She truly lived every moment she was given on this earth.  Laura loved people and people loved Laura.  She will be missed but her legacy of love and care for her fellow mankind will live on for generations to come. She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan De Jesus Leyba and Consuelo S. Leyba. She is survived by her husband Travis Newton; her daughter Tesla Newton; her sisters: Gloria Leyba (Nimrod Herrera), Rita Leyba (Kevin Turner; Pat Sanchez), Lorraine and Paul Martinez, Bernice and Gerald Alcon, Amy and Carl Essary;  her God-daughters Mariah Essary and Janin Essary; parents-in-law Henry and Melissia Newton; brother-in-law Michael and Sharon Newton; nephews: Patrick Sanchez, TJ Cruz, Ted Cruz, Joshua Martinez, Charles Alcon, Jesse James Alcon, Carl Essary II, DeJesus Essary, Cole Newton, Sage Newton; nieces: Jessica Sanchez, Connie Prunner, Jackie Sanchez, Cheryl Alcon, Janin Essary, Kayla Martinez, Mariah Essary,; and many uncles, aunts, cousins. A memorial service will take place on Friday. May 22, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Harris Family Farm in San Antonio, New Mexico. Please adhere to state guidelines and precautions regarding COVID-19. A private family burial will take place in Chacon, New Mexico following the service.
