LaVerne Theresa Sobieck Schaefer

LaVerne Theresa Sobieck Schaefer, born August 28, 1932, received her eternal reward on April 12, 2024. She rests now in the arms of our loving and merciful Lord. God took her hand and led her into Heaven. She will be missed by her loving family of five children, Ann Holliday and Craig of Cherry Valley, IL, Kathy Mengoni and Rick of Albuquerque, NM, Mary Patterson of Rockford, IL, Mark Schaefer and Deborah of Albuquerque, NM and Mike Schaefer and Cheryl of Orange, CA, 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Frank, brother Rev. Elmer J. Sobieck, sister Angeline Nieters, son-in-law, Glenn, and husband Gerry, of 65 years.
Following Gerry's career path, LaVerne established successful, loving, meticulously run households in St. Cloud, MN, Fargo, ND, Aberdeen, SD, Rockford, IL, Springfield, IL, and Albuquerque, NM. Her own secretarial career began once the children were grown at the University of New Mexico Computer Division. She also worked at Kirland AFB in the Phillips Laboratory and the AF15th Weather Squadron. Crochet, knitting, sewing, huck weaving, ceramics and crafts of all kinds were her lifelong enjoyment. Devoted to her Catholic faith, she volunteered as one of "Charlie's Angels" making treats for nursing home residents and bringing Communion to the homebound. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint John XXIII, 4831 Tramway Ridge Drive NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111 at 10:00 am on Friday, May 17, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, MN, Saint Francis Convent, 116-8th Ave SE, Little Falls, MN 56345-3597.
