Pierce, Lavonne "Red"
Age 85, went home to his Lord and his family on Friday, January 27, 2017in Socorro, NM. "Red", as friends and family affectionately called him, was born in Baxterville, MS on December 2, 1931, to Iddio and Margaret (Rouse) Pierce. Red was in the Mississippi National Guard when it was activated and served until 1952. He then joined the regular Army and served in the South Pacific, White Sands Missile Range, and the Army Corp of Engineers in Washington, DC. He was then transferred to White Sands Stallion Site near Socorro where he met and married his wife, Mary. They were married on April 6, 1963 at the San Miguel Catholic Church. Afterwards, he served his second tour in Korea and later in Vietnam. His last year of service was at Fort Meyers, VA with the Audio and Recording section assigned to do all activities at the White House, the Pentagon, and Arlington Cemetery. After serving his country proudly, he worked for RCA at Stallion Site where he retired in 1986 after 20 years. He settled in Socorro where he owned Socorro Pest Control Service for 37 years. Red will be remembered by his family and friends as a very loving, generous, caring and compassionate person. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Sidney and Louis Pierce. Red is survived by wife of 53 years, Mary Naranjo Pierce; brother-in-law, Ray Naranjo; brother-in-law, Mike Naranjo and wife Sidney; and many nieces and nephews in Socorro and Mississippi. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 5-7 pm at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 309 Garfield, Socorro, NM.
