Mrs. LaVonne Woods, daughter of the late Joe and Delma Hoard, loving Wife to Searle Walker “Woody” Woods passed away peacefully at home on September 20, 2016. LaVonne was born on February 9, 1930 in Big Spring, Texas and raised in Forsan, Texas along with siblings Joe Hoard, William Hoard, and Emma Woodson.
Although Texas never left the girl, the girl would eventually leave Texas. LaVonne pursued a career as a fashion model in New York, Dallas and Albuquerque. Although she would eventually marry and raise a family, LaVonne continued to model occasionally throughout her life.
LaVonne never lost her passion for life and adventure. She and Woody traveled extensively. She was an avid reader and loved to line dance as a member of several line dancing organizations. LaVonne was active in the Cosmopolitan Club, the Retired Officer’s Wives Club, the Military Officer’s Association of America and a supporter of her beloved Lobos as a Lobo Club member.
LaVonne is predeceased by her sons Joe Green and Jeffrey Woods and daughters Janice Gavlin and Janet Kabler. She is survived by her beloved husband Woody, daughter Cynthia Jonz and husband William, daughter Laurae Sather and husband Steven, and son Jordon Woods and wife Lia. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
To those that knew and loved her, LaVonne will be remembered for her unwavering love of life, her fierce devotion to family and the strength, grace and humor with which she faced adversity. We will miss you.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Daniels Family Funeral Services- Wyoming Chapel, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. A brief reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
