BIRKHAUSER, LAWRENCE H. Age 85, passed away October 23, 2014.  He was born February 27, 1929, in Mt. Calvary, WI to Margaret (Koenigs) and Adolph Birkhauser.  Larry graduated from Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac, WI in 1947. He studied to become a priest at Saint Lawrence Seminary for 2 years before joining the Air Force in 1949.  His tour of duty took him to Bermuda, Washington, Michigan, Texas, Germany and New Mexico.  Larry retired from the Air Force in 1974 and became a teacher for special education students with Albuquerque Public Schools, retiring in 1991.  From 1991-2012 Larry spent numerous hours doing volunteer work for a number of non-profit organizations and charities.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Frances (Berenz) Birkhauser.  He is survived by his seven children, Debbie Birkhauser and husband Patrick McDaniel, Paul Birkhauser and wife Cari, Betti (Birkhauser) Trahan and husband Michael, Gerard Birkhauser, Nancy Birkhauser and Glen Shrank, Mark Birkhauser, Kim (Birkhauser) Gilliland and husband Robert; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  Larry was a loving father and grandfather.  He was cremated and his ashes will be buried at his deceased wife’s gravesite. Larry’s family will hold a reception to commemorate his life on Friday, November 21, from 10:00-11:30 am at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 3113 Carlisle Boulevard Northeast, Albuquerque, NM.
