Pickard, Leander �Lee� A. Leander A. Pickard, 94, passed away January 7, 2013 in Rio Rancho New Mexico. He was born April 14, 1918 in Hornell, New York to Adah Griswold Pickard and Leander G. Pickard. Leander �Lee� is survived by his wife of 72 years, Welma Bates Pickard; sons Leander G. Pickard and Kenneth D. Pickard; daughter-in-law Renee Pickard and one grandson Ronald K. Pickard of Albuquerque; daughter Karen L. Pickard of Rio Rancho; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends and loved ones. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Marian Pickard of Idyllwild, California, and Marilyn Simms of Canisteo, New York. Lee was a veteran who served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked for 38 years as a switchman and conductor on the railroad and retired from ConRail. He came to New Mexico in 1987 from Meadville PA where he had lived for 20 years before becoming a resident for Rio Rancho, NM. Lee joined the Covenant Christian Church in Rio Rancho and helped build the church on Iris road and served as Sunday school teacher and Elder for many years. Lee was an avid sports fan and his favorite teams were the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. A Memorial Service will be held at the Covenant Christian Church, 6380 Iris Road NE in Rio Rancho, on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM.
