Leo Montoya

Montoya, Leo Age 85, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 at his home surrounded by his devoted family. He was born in Lemitar, NM on July 8, 1928, to Telesfor and Romelia (Chavez) Montoya. Leo attended Mt. Carmel Catholic School in Socorro and joined the US Navy after his nineth grade year. He came back to Socorro after he was discharged and became an independent dealer for Conoco. After about nine years with Conoco he became a independent dealer for Chevron and operated his staton for over 24 years. Leo was a very honest and hard worker and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. After selling his business, Leo went to work for the City of Socorro Police Dept. maintaining their cars for nine years before retiring. Leo enjoyed watching NASCAR and drag racing. Leo was a devoted family man and very strong in his faith. He loved to visit and would go to the nursing home and the hospital and visit with the residents and patients. Leo was a very generous and special person who touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita in 1983; his brothers; Pablo, Reynaldo, Max, Roy, Juan, Telesfor and Tomas; and his sister, Adelina. Leo is survived by his son, Tony Montoya and wife, Bernice; his daughters: Genevieve Martinez and husband, Orlando, Ana Martinez and husband, Harlan, and Ramona Montoya; his step-daughter, Pam Bell and husband, Owen; sister, Vera Gallegos; grandchildren: Theresa Mishoe and husband, James; Bernadette Martinez and companion, Joe; Orlena Rosas and husband, Patrick; Delicia Messer and husband, Resen; Christopher and wife, Erika; Harlan II, Jeremy and Aaron Martinez; Rita, Roberta, Rebecca and Robert Aragon; and Jason and Josh Bell; great grandchildren: Kole and Amalia Mishoe, Dominic Montano, KateLynn Scates, Camryn Rosas, Janisa and Maritza Castro, Jayraina, Jessina, Shayana and Yamila Montoya, Tameron Masterson, Berta Alguirre and Zarek Aragon. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Daniels Family Funeral Services from 6 - 8 pm. Rosary to be recited on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 8:30 am at the San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro, NM 87801 with the Mass of the Resurrection to follow at 9:00 am. Father Andrew Pavlak as Celebrant. Burial will be in the San Miguel Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dominic Montano, James Mishoe, Robert Aragon, Chris Montoya, Resen Messer and Harlan Martinez II.
