Leonard was born on May 6, 1935 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Thomas Richards and Mary Genevieve Aguirre. Leonard is survived by his spouse, Mary Aguayo and his children, Son, Leonard Edward Richards Jr. and Daughter, Nancy Chaffin.

A Rosary is scheduled for 9:30a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Incarnation Catholic Church. Burial will take place at 1:00pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
