Trilling - Eales, Leslie
7th August 1958 - 17th March 2015
With her vibrant personality and great sense of style, Leslie Trilling, who has died age 56, was a prominent member of the Santa Fe art community. Having trained originally at Sotheby's on London she developed her own art appraisal business and spent most of her career living and working in Albuquerque and Santa Fe as specialist in 19th and 20th century American and European painting and porcelain. A believer in beauty and beautiful things, generous and with an impish sense of humor, she was great company and the life and soul of many an evening in the Dragon Room at the Pink Adobe.
A woman of great determination, compassionate and deeply spiritual, Leslie was a unique person who made an impression on everyone she met. Art was just one of her great motivators, writing and animals were the others. who had not met Honeybear, the adored dog she rescued from the shelter. Writing was her first love though and she started working for Bonham's Fine Art and Phillips of London auction houses in part to allow herself more time to pursue it. Well read and with a particular love of old movies she was an excellent storyteller who also wrote a column for the LA Times and was in the process of developing her experience in the art business for television.
Leslie was gracious hostess who entertained elegantly with parties such as famed Easter egg hunt and her political dinners in the garden of her beautiful historic house. she loved to spend time in her garden, shaded by the towering trees and to walk in the ditch trails to the river.
She leaves behind her daughter, Rosabelle AnaClaire Eales; her mother, Leona Trilling-Alpert; her sister, Beth Minter; her brother, Jeffery Trilling (Mondira) and her husband, Andrew Eales from whom she had been separated for some years.
A private celebration of her life will be held in Albuquerque on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. For information please contact Suzanne Fuqua at 602-526-6565.
