Rees, Linda Monica Linda Monica (Torres) Rees died Sunday, June 17, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 60. Linda moved to Albuquerque in 1984 from her native New York City. She worked as a dental assistant before getting hired at Citicorp Credit Services, which later became Resolution Services Incorporated where she earned a reputation as a top collector and became management material. Her introduction to corporate culture inspired her to return to school. She attended National College (now, National American University) and completed a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration while continuing to work full-time and raise a daughter by herself. Later on, she returned to school again and completed a Master's degree in Elementary Education at the College of Santa Fe. She went on to teach elementary and middle school aged children, which was a first love and her true calling. She was a dedicated and accomplished teacher who was able to help throngs of students reach their full learning potential. When she first arrived in New Mexico, she attended Bethesda Seventh Day Adventist Church. Later, she taught Sunday School at Phillips Chapel CME Church before joining and making it her permanent church home. She was a lifelong believer in Christ and a devout Christian. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Catherine C. and Clarence J. Smith. She is survived by her only child from her first marriage, Ailene Yasmin Torres of St. Thomas, USVI, her second husband Ronald L. Rees of Albuquerque, her brothers: Michael Smith (twin), William Dean, Mark Smith, and Barton Smith all of New York City. Sisters: Mary C. Sharpton of Philadelphia, Carol A. Montgomery of New York City, and Myra Smith of Augusta, GA and scores of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends who loved her dearly and will miss her. Visitation will be held at Daniels Funeral Home at 1100 Coal Avenue on Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a viewing before the funeral beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the Funeral to start at noon on Monday, June 25 at Phillips Chapel, CME Church, 1401 Edith Blvd. S.E..
