Lita S. Garcia

July 20, 1939 — May 26, 2021

 

It is with great sadness that the children of Lita Garcia announce her passing on December 30th, 2020. She passed away peacefully after a full life of 97 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Alfonso Garcia. She is survived by her daughters Marcella and Husband Forrest, their children Michael, Cristina, Marc and Andrew. Christina and Michael Davison and son Max and her son Thomas Garcia and wife Laura and children Jackson and Gabrielle and Thomas’s Daughter Jamara Garcia. Also, by her sister’s Mary Lou Archeleta and Gabriel Gonzalez and her Nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful loving grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson. She was born in Koehler, New Mexico a small mining town to Manual Maes Salazar and Eleutiero Salazar. She grew up in wagon mound high School. In 1945 after World War II she married her husband Alfonso Garcia. He had served in the Army in Europe. They Lived in Raton, N.M and had a Grocery Store there. After a few years they moved to Los Angeles California for better opportunities. She was hired as an electronics assembler by North American Aviation, which later became Boeing, she quickly became a master lead assembler and was awarded several commendations for excellent work on the Apollo Spacecraft and the minuet Man project. She later retired from Boeing at the age of 64. Upon her retirement she and her husband Alfonso moved from California back to New Mexico where they built a home in Bernalillo. She enjoyed her later years by joining a quilting group and along with her friends. She made many beautiful hand stitched quilts. She was also a member of the Red Hats Society and thimbleweeds quilt meeting and activities. Another thing she really enjoyed was shopping for bargains! She could never Resist a good sale. She loved bringing home treasures she brought home quite a lot of them! She was a lady with a very generous heart. She helped her family when needed and gave to many charities such as special Olympics, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and wounded Warrior Project. She was a great example of strength, determination and courage. One thing we will always remember are her wonderful tortilla’s, they were the best! Also, we all loved her Chili Enchiladas. She was a lifelong Catholic and was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows in Bernalillo. She will rest in peace at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
