Lloyd Wilford Wheeler, 88, of Hogback, passed from this life, due to health complications related to age, on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. He was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Hogback, to Wilford and Ida Hunt Wheeler. His life began and was lived in the Four Corners area that he loved dearly. His occupation as a trader to the Indians endeared him to the Navajo people. He spoke their language as a native. He loved their gentle ways and great sense of humor. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Edith (Martin) Wheeler; and his sisters, Rose Wheeler Washburn and Ethel Wheeler Cardon. He is survived by his sister, Aletta Wheeler Ashcroft and husband, Clyde Ashcroft; his son, Thomas L. Wheeler; daughters, Mary Wheeler Rogers and her husband, James T. "Jim" Rogers, Rose Lynn Wheeler Fieldsted and her husband, Dennis D. Fieldsted; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, at the location of the funeral, 10 Road 6570 in Kirtland.
