Davis, Lois L.
Age 90, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016 at Lovelace-Westside Hospital with Willard and her family at her side. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our amazing and much loved mother, Lois Lorraine Pacheco Davis. She was born in Plainfield, NJ. Her mother was Elizabeth Julia Schubert, her father George Francis Harlin, and step-father Joseph MacDonald all preceded her in death as did her beloved sister, Betty “Bunny” Elliott. After working in New York City from the age of 18, she came to New Mexico on the Super Chief in 1948 and had a small home in the Bel-Air neighborhood of Albuquerque. She worked several years at Albuquerque Gravel as an executive secretary until leaving to marry our dad. Her love of dancing brought her to our father while he was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base, as a Master Sargent. She was invited to a dance at the NCO club, where they met, and were married shortly thereafter.
Philip, their first son was born in 1951; Mark followed four years later just before dad’s deployment to Europe. Diane and Holly followed 4 and 8 years after. They retired in Albuquerque and built their home on the west side with Mark as a small child, helping dad lay blocks for the walls of the house or whatever else was needed, that he could do. Mom and Dad worked side by side building their home and the Juan B. Pacheco Insurance Agency. Mom worked long hours in the agency office, as well as working evenings at The Guild Theatre and Don Panchos for 18 years. She always said “this is my relaxation time” from the business.
While working at the theatres she did many forms of hand stitching, needlepoint and crewel. She has many pieces of these needlework art pieces, which we all treasure.
Mom and Dad enjoyed their lovely home until the early nineties, when they built and moved into a home in High Resort, Rio Rancho, NM. She continued to live there and enjoy her sewing hobbies, gardening and living with our dad, Juan and then her husband Lloyd McPeters, and Willard King, who has been her constant companion for eight years. They traveled, gardened and played endless skipbo every evening together.
She was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho and was also recently re-baptized.
Our mother was an amazing woman. She was so smart and loved reading endlessly; she could build most anything; she could squeeze more from a dollar than anybody we have ever known, and had a memory like a steel trap.
Our Family traveled together with our parents in a small truck camper and the love of RVing continued for many years with her hooking up a huge fifth wheel to their truck and driving the countryside for many miles. She continued her RV travels after my dad’s death with her husband Lloyd McPeters, who was introduced to her by friends at a Red Rock State Park RV rally. She continued to travel the world with Willard King who was at her bedside when she passed away. Her children all had many good times with her as we traveled the US to visit family and friends.
Mom is survived by her sons: Philip; Marco, wife Janice; her daughters: Diane, husband William Severns; Holly, husband Kevin Leue; her granddaughters: Brittany Severns; Kristin, husband Keith Owens; Samantha, husband Tony Torres; great grandchildren: Arden, Bennett, Graham Owens, Esme’ Severns, Saylor Torres, and many loved nieces and nephews.
Mom loved being with her family and they adored her. Mom had a way of being grumpy with us and direct but we always knew she loved us and her favorite was the one that she was with at the time. We will miss her terribly.
A Graveside Service will be held Monday, May 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, with luncheon to follow at 3906 19th Ave SE, Rio Rancho NM. As much as mom loved flowers she would prefer in lieu of flowers a donation to her beloved Rio Rancho First Baptist Church or to New Mexico Animal Friends, as her puppy Teddi just passed away 2 weeks prior or to your favorite charity.
