Lois Fassler Harvey, 96, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 19, 2017 in Albuquerque, NM at Kaseman Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Gordon L. Harvey. Lois was born on March 22, 192l in Akron CO and grew up on the Diamond 5 Ranch in Washington County, CO. After her graduation from Akron High School in 1938, she attended Colorado A & M, now Colorado State, in Ft. Collins CO for several years until she obtained an emergency teaching certificate. She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Washington County and then moved to Denver to work for Gates Rubber Company and Armco during World War II. She met Gordon on a bowling date in Denver. After her marriage on November 28, 1944, she and Gordon lived in Oak Ridge TN where Gordon was an engineer in the Manhattan Project. They moved to Albuquerque in 1949 where Lois and Gordon were active members of Immanuel Presbyterian Church. She was involved in community volunteerism her entire life at the downtown Presbyterian Hospital, Kaseman Hospital, Meals on Wheels, Desert Bloomers Garden Club, Project Share, Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau, St. Joseph Hospital 60 Plus Services and Immanuel Presbyterian Church, to name just a few. Along with her husband, Lois was honored with the Senior Community Award by the St. Joseph Hospital 60-Plus Services program in 1997 for her outstanding volunteer work in Albuquerque. She and Gordon loved to travel taking many trips abroad. They also traveled through the US, Mexico and Canada with the Silver Streak Travel Club. Lois and Gordon were members of the Albuquerque Desert Swingers Square Dance Club for 50 years.
Lois leaves behind her children: daughter, Susan Harvey Reznik and her husband, Jack Reznik of Rio Rancho NM; her son, Philip John Harvey and his wife, Christine McLean Harvey of Kirkland WA.
There are also 8 grandchildren: Katherine Benoit and husband, Ben Benoit; Robert Reznik and wife, Kate Boudreaux; Christopher Reznik and wife, Heather Reznik; Nikolas Reznik and wife, Noelle Reznik; and Alexa Territo and husband, Joshua Territo; Heather Day and husband, Patrick Day; Danny Harvey and Jacob Harvey.
Lois has 18 great-grand children, the oldest of whom will start Medical School this Fall and another is due to arrive in September.
Cremation has taken place and according to Lois’ wishes, no memorial service will be held, but her family will gather to celebrate her life at a later date.
