LoisAnn Heymann Markowitz

LoisAnn Markowitz, 87, who departed this life on March 23, 2010. She was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on June 9, 1922 to Richard M. and Rosalind L. Heymann, and she died in Grants NM surrounded by her family and friends. She wants to be remembered as a good sport and one who loved deeply. Services were officiated by Rabbi Larry Bach and Dr. Ray Jenkins. LoisAnn served in the US Navy (WAVES) during World War II. She held the most important job in the military �?¯�?¿�?½�?¯�?¿�?½“ pay crew. She was proud of her service to this country, and was an active member of the Roadrunner WAVES group in Albuquerque NM. She met Marine T-Sgt. Herman (Mark) Markowitz in 1944 when they were both stationed in Corpus Christi TX (before he went to Okinawa). They were married in 1946, and had three children. LoisAnn and Mark moved to Albuquerque in 1949, and then to El Paso in 1952, where Mark and she owned Custom Electronics. They lived in El Paso until 1985, when they moved to Northern Virginia, and then to Raleigh NC in 1992 to be close to their children and grandchildren. In 1998, they retired to Grants NM, where LoisAnn continued to grow beautiful roses and cultivate many friendships. LoisAnn loved helping people and will always be remembered for her graciousness and modeling the virtues of faith, integrity, and loyalty. She loved her family and took great pride in their accomplishments. Her motto was "Always leave them laughing." She was known for her sweet and gentle spirit, although she was formidable when defending those she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mark (September 19, 2009), and their son Eric Lee Markowitz in 2002. She is survived by daughters Taube Jenkins and husband Ray of Grants, New Mexico and Janna Lynn Wallen of Rockville Maryland. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren: Dr. Jason and Stacey Janet (Britton and Sophia) of Raleigh NC; Shana Kerey (Jadeh and Alexi) of Manassas Park VA; Arlen and Megan Janet (Kaela, Christian, and Alaina) of Ashton VA; Caasi Janet (Dejah) of Haymarket VA; Tracy and Bill Papadopolous (Afroditi and Miltiades) of GlennDale MD; Amy and Dr. Scott Vejcik (Aranxia, Kataryna, Isabella, Dominic, and Maximilian) of Annandale VA; Maj. Adam and Olivia Wallen (Elie, Isaac, Talia, and Leila) of England; Maj. Ben and Cara Wallen (Alex, Jack and Sadie) of Round Rock TX; PO2 Joshua Wallen USN; Matthew and Amalia Markowitz (Batsheva Tovah) of Jerusalem Israel; and Jonathan Markowitz of Chicago IL. She is also survived by her brother Col. (retired) Richard M. Heyman and wife Barbara of Creswell Oregon, cousins Carolyn Jean Isman of Katy TX and Helen and Ralph Goldsticker of St. Louis MO, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Pall-bearers were: Jason Janet, Shana Kerey, Arlen Janet, Stan Clark, Patrick Carroll, Ernest Martinez, Sandra Haddox, Sid Cowan, and Wes Hobbs.
