Lou Helen Stukes

June 23, 1943 — December 26, 2019

June 23, 1943 was the year Ms. Lou Helen Stukes was born and raised in Honey Grove, Texas. She was the daughter of Mr. Nolan Ferguson and Mrs. Juanita Williams & raised by Mama Helen. She entered into eternal life on December 26th, 2019 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

 

After graduating from Pendleton High school, Ms. Stukes moved quite frequently primarily between Texas and New Mexico where she became pregnant with her first born Wayland Ferguson and also while meeting her husband Mr. Theodore Stukes. After becoming pregnant with her oldest daughter Freda in 1965 & then Rosha in 1966, she permanently resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico with her 3 children & youngest daughter Georgette in 1978.

 

For ten years she worked as a cook in the dietary department of St. Joesph’s Hospital. she was given an opportunity to go to Technical Vocational Institute (TVI) where she attended school for two years and graduated from in 1982. After graduating, she obtained employment at the Veterans Administration Hospital (VA) as a hospital supply clerk. She retired from the VA hospital in 2007 after 25 committed years as an employee.

 

Christianity has always played an integral role in her life because she grew up in the Baptist Church. The church served as an outlet where she could find solace in life. She had been actively involved in Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where she kept her spirituality as a top priority in her life.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents (Nolan Ferguson, Juanita Williams, & Mama Helen), Brother Leo Minter, & Sister Margret Reynolds

 

She leaves to cherish in memory: Her children; Wayland Ferguson, Rosha Stukes of Albuquerque New Mexico, Freda McCray & Georgette Ferguson-Adams of Columbia, South Carolina, two sisters & one brother; Ruby Smith , Cynthia Williams of Phoenix, Arizona & Paul Williams of San Angelo, Texas, fourteen grandchildren, Five great-grandchildren, & a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends.
